Free Access to Your FICO® Score

Free Access to Your FICO® Score
To help you achieve your financial goals, you can now view your FICO® Score in ComputerLine and on the MSUFCU Mobile app. This FICO® Score is based on data from Experian on a quarterly basis and will not impact your credit score. We offer free access to your FICO® Score so you can stay on top of your credit and avoid any surprises.
Because FICO® Scores are based on the information in your credit reports, it is very important to make sure that the credit report information is accurate. You should review your credit report from each consumer reporting agency (CRA) at least once a year and before making any large purchases, such as a home or car.
You have the right to obtain one free credit report each year from each of the consumer reporting agencies through www.AnnualCreditReport.com. Please note that your free credit report will not include your FICO® Score.
What are FICO® Scores?
The credit scores most widely used in lending decisions are FICO® Scores, the credit scores created by Fair Isaac Corporation (FICO). Lenders can request FICO® Scores from all three major credit reporting agencies. Lenders use FICO® Scores to help them make billions of credit decisions every year. FICO develops FICO® Scores based solely on information in consumer credit files maintained at the credit reporting agencies. Understanding your FICO® Score can help you better understand your credit risk and allow you to effectively manage your financial health. A good FICO® Score means better financial options for you.
What is a good FICO® Score?
The score above which a lender would accept a new application for credit, but below which the credit application would be denied, is known as the “score cutoff.” Since the score cutoff varies by lender, it’s hard to say what a good FICO® Score is outside the context of a particular lending decision. For example, one auto lender may offer lower interest rates to people with FICO® Scores above, say, 680; another lender may use 720, and so on. Your lender may be able to give you guidance on their criteria for a given credit product.
What are Key Score Factors?
When a lender receives your FICO® Score, “key score factors” are also delivered, which are the top factors that affect the score. Addressing some or all of these key score factors can help you more responsibly manage your financial health over time. Having good FICO® Scores can put you in a better position to qualify for credit or better terms in the future.

Fraud Management

Fraud Management
Protecting our members from fraud is a top priority for MSUFCU, your credit card provider. To give you additional card security, we use the Visa Fraud Alert Management detection system which continuously monitors your Visa Credit Card activity to help identify and prevent fraudulent transactions on your account.
If suspicious charges or transactions outside of your normal spending pattern appear on your card, you may receive an automated phone call from Fraud Alert Management on behalf of MSUFCU to verify the charges. You will be asked to verify the charges.
To verify your identity, you may be asked to provide personal information such as address, birth date and confirmation of the last four digits of your social security number. You will never be asked to provide your full social security number, Visa Credit Card number, account number, or PIN.
If Fraud Alert Management is unable to reach you directly, they will leave a message identifying themselves as Visa Fraud Alert Management calling to verify transactions made with your Visa Credit Card.
If we are unable to contact you regarding the suspicious charges on your Visa Credit Card, your card may be temporarily blocked to prevent any fraudulent activity. The block will be removed once we are able to confirm with you that the charges are legitimate.
